Having clarity about your WHY drives everything in your life and career.

Unfortunately, the less clear you are about your why, the more scattered your plan and life become. It’s not long before you don’t have a plan at all, and you find yourself running on the hamster wheel doing things that appear productive, but aren’t. I established my why decades ago and it hasn’t changed over all that time. I gain the most when I am doing things to live my why out every day. My why is “To positively impact peoples lives each day”. Summed up, I get the most satisfaction when I can interact with someone and bring enough value to have them walk away feeling better because of our meeting.

Your WHY serves as a compass in the messy day-to-day work we all do.

Leaders and Sales professionals who know “why” they do what they do find it much easier to build relationships, find new prospects and agents, close profitable deals, and have unbelievable success. They are more effective and efficient in everything they do.

Leadership expert Simon Sinek calls this “the golden circle.” He says that it’s not enough to know what you do and how you do it. At our essence, we are most motivated by understanding why we do things. And it is through that awareness; we can best connect with what we sell to others.

Selling, he says, is a human experience. “People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it.”

To help identify and express your why, begin by answering these basic questions:

  • What do you do?
  • Why do you do it?
  • What value do you offer?
  • For whom do you do it?

Sellers who know WHY they do what they do find it much easier to remain focused on their goals because they are mission-driven people who do the right things for the right reasons.
