Self-development is a lifelong process—but not a linear process. New situations will require new and different skills, and challenges often arise in life when you least expect them. That process of setting personal goals and looking inside yourself is some of life’s most profound and rewarding work. If this process is new to you, that’s okay—start small. As one of my good friends and our company leader always says, it’s a marathon not a sprint.

1. Find a mentor or coach

One-on-one guidance can be highly effective for certain people. What type of one-on-one guidance depends on what you’re looking to improve.

A mentor or coach can be a great choice for improving your interpersonal skills, time management, and goal-setting, or for helping you advance in your chosen career.

2. Read books and listen to podcasts

Reading books 📕 and listening to podcasts is the most cost-effective way to gain perspective other than your own. Some people swear reading books is all one needs to improve oneself; others tend to opt for podcast, webinars and live events.

3. Find peer support

Whether it’s through a formal group like a religious organization, an online community, or just among your friends, it can be helpful to reach out to others who are also on a journey of self-development.

4. Care for your body

If you’re the type of person who tends to forget they have a body, losing yourself in conversations, books, games, or other cerebral activities, you might want to work on exercise, diet and self-care activities.

What is personal development? – Personal Growth is defined as evolving and maturing as we move along in life. It is about becoming better, more fulfilled, self-assured, and resilient human beings. People who focus on self-growth reflect on their behavior. They see what they could have done better. They want to know what the keys are to building great personal relationships.

Failures aren’t obstacles for self observers, they are ways to move ahead. Personal growth lovers set goals for themselves and assess their progress against these targets instead of getting demoralized over every setback, standard benchmarks, or someone else’s success. Instead of judging people they take a step back and realize what they are looking for in others is what they want in themselves. People inclined towards personal growth are open to looking at new ways to living and communication.

The meaning of Personal development can be many. But learning who we are, feeling good about it, and improving upon ourselves form the core of self-development.

“Don’t underestimate the impact of small, yet significant, acts of courage.”

“Practice courageous acts in all areas of your life.”

Self-improvement is the improvement of one’s knowledge, status, or character by one’s own efforts. It’s the quest to make ourselves better in any and every facet of life.

Self-improvement almost always starts with self-awareness and the ability to transform your habits.

Why Do Values Matter when it comes to self-improvement?

The main benefit of knowing your values is that you will gain tremendous clarity and focus, but ultimately you must use that newfound clarity to make consistent decisions and take committed action. So the whole point of discovering your values is to improve the results you get in those areas that are truly most important to you. Focus on YOUR personal growth journey today, and enjoy the process of becoming all you can be as you transform over time.

Best,

Greg
